The church was built in the center of the city of Baños, surrounded by beautiful mountains, waterfalls, and the Tungurahua volcano.
Its construction began on February 11, 1904, led by Fr. Thomas Halflants, parish priest of Baños, and was fully completed in 1944 by Fray Sebastián Acosta.
It is divided into three naves, built in a semi-Gothic style, with a rectangular shape, large columns, and pointed arches. All the decoration and paintings adorning the walls were created by the Imbabura-born artist Fray Enrique Mideros.
Inside the Basilica, visitors can admire a collection of murals depicting local miracles attributed to the Virgin of Agua Santa.
The sanctuary is visited by hundreds of national and international tourists who come seeking spiritual peace, asking for a favor from the Virgin, or simply out of devotion.
Visiting hours: 5:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
