The La Chorrera climbing area, located in the parish of San Juan, on the slopes of the impressive Chimborazo Volcano, is considered one of the best rock climbing spots in Ecuador. With numerous equipped routes and high potential for new ones, it’s a dream destination for climbing enthusiasts.
Our Chimborazo climbing tour appeals to thrill-seekers as well as nature lovers — here, you can enjoy birdwatching, take in breathtaking Andean scenery, and admire the towering Chimborazo, the highest mountain on Earth when measured from the center of the planet.
Located at an altitude of 3,550 meters, the La Chorrera Canyon offers a rewarding challenge. Be sure to bring warm, comfortable clothing and the mindset to push your limits in this unforgettable natural setting.

Day 1
Begins at the Geotours office, where you will be outfitted with the proper climbing and safety equipment before traveling in our comfortable van to the Wildlife Reserve of Chimborazo.
From the parking lot you will enjoy the stunning scenery at a starting altitude of 4,800 meters (15,750 feet). We begin our ascent along the challenging limestone cliffs and arrive at our destination of 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) where the glacier starts.
After eating our lunch, we will depart the Park. When we arrive at the San Juan camping area we will first prepare our tents and then talk about the awesome climb of the day! After watching a beautiful sunset and enjoying dinner, we will have time to rest for the next exciting day!
Day 2
Will begin with breakfast at 8:00, then we will head back to Chimborazo for our first climb of the day. We will start with an easier route, technical level 5a, to warm up and familiarize ourselves with the rocks.
We have the rest of the day to follow any of several different routes and challenges. The ultimate endurance test!
We recommend that you relax your muscles and take advantage of the natural hot springs in Baños after our return from this fantastic and challenging trip!
