How does it feel to do an adventure sport for the first time?
Our tour began at 9 in the morning in Banos de Agua Santa, Ecuador. When we left the Geotours agency, we took the transport anxiously waiting to reach our destination. During the journey we passed through several interesting places such as the Agoyán dam and the tunnels that lead to our destination.
Our first stop was at the equipment warehouses, where we went down to put on the necessary equipment to be able to carry out the activity. The wetsuits are bringing us closer to what is coming. Once we were ready with everything we needed, we got back on the bus to later arrive at the place where we would carry out the long-awaited and intriguing activity.
At the time our instructor began with the previous instructions, all activity related to adventure sports has risks, our guide began to indicate all the possible scenarios in case something goes wrong during the tour. It is something that for us, made us see rafting with a little trepidation. However, you could see the guide's preparation and that made us feel safe. Once the situations that could arise were explained, we were ready to review the rowing positions. With an explanation and a subsequent review we were ready to begin our great adventure.
The majestic Pastaza River awaited us. When we saw the river we knew that there was no going back, for those who cannot swim, there is no reason to worry, at the moment of adventure, nerves are put aside. The contact with the water made the fear disappear quickly and instead the adrenaline and the emotion for the unexpected invaded the whole environment. The descent through the rapids tested our emotions and our physique since the paddle must be constant; teamwork is necessary to prevent the boat from turning or a partner from falling into the river. Although the physical effort to carry out the activity is at some point exhausting, everything that can be enjoyed in this activity is worth it- the landscape, the river and the emotions make the moment unforgettable.
We emerged triumphant, there was no accident and the experience exceeded our expectations. To close with a flourish, a delicious lunch awaited us that would help us replenish our energy. Our day would end when we got back to the Geotours agency.
If they asked us if it was worth risking experiences and moments like these, the answer is a resounding YES. The contact with nature together with the emotion that is experienced throughout the activity results in living the experience and that is something that we carry with us throughout our lives.
